On 18 December, SweMaint's wheel workshop in Gothenburg passed the milestone of 10,000 reprocessed wheels in 2023! The recipe behind the success and what makes the workshop Scandinavia's largest for freight wagon wheels is an increased demand for freight wagon transport, a fantastic collaboration with customers, suppliers and partners combined with joint dedication. As the United Nations Children's Fund, UNICEF works in 190 countries with one goal: to make children's rights a reality for all children. The organisation receives no financial support from the UN and is funded exclusively by voluntary contributions from individuals, companies and governments. All money raised is distributed among the countries and areas that need it most. For the first time in a long time, we see a decline in the development of children in many countries and more children than ever before need help to survive.

SweMaint is part of society at large and with the corporate role comes a responsibility to be a positive force in the world around us. We therefore engage in a number of different initiatives aimed at supporting and contributing to a more sustainable and inclusive society. The latest in the series of such initiatives, and particularly important since SweMaint is based in Gothenburg, is the collaboration with Göteborgs Stadsmission 2023/2024.

Midwaggon in Ånge Sweden, which rebuilds, maintains and services locomotives, is getting a new owner. The current owner, Extendo Group based in Färila, is selling the business and its property to Malmö-based Kockums Industrier. Midwaggon, has an annual turnover of 30 million SEK, and around 30 employees in Ånge.

UNICEF receives no financial support from the UN. The organization's activities are thus financed exclusively by voluntary contributions from private individuals, companies and governments.

Following Malmö-based Kockums Industrier’s acquisition of state-owned SweMaint AB in 2007, the new owners were keen on quickly communicating the strategic concept and industrial logic of the acquisition.

The world faces major challenges, including everything from climate change to social exclusion and ill-health. Work, housing and good social conditions are fundamental to being included in society. These are a given for many of us but not for everyone.

Laying a stronger foundation for the competitiveness of rail freight is SweMaint AB’s mission. The role of Northern Europe’s leading supplier of repair and maintenance services for freight wagons also comes with a responsibility to continually deliver the right solution at the right price. The company is now once again taking its level of service up a notch in line with its strategic long-term goals.

Keeping infrastructure and rail freight transport up and running is fundamental to consumption, society and, by extension, our entire prosperity. Several of Sweden’s industrial companies rely on rail freight, which has great advantages over other methods of transport in terms of capacity and especially from a sustainability perspective.
