Wagon Maintenance

Preventive and corrective wagon maintenance for better business

An interrupted transport operation costs time, money, and trust for everyone involved — customers, suppliers, and hauliers alike. Preventive wagon maintenance and corrective repairs are therefore essential. At our well-equipped workshops, we have both the machinery and the expertise to deliver service quickly and ensure operational safety, so that our clients' wagons are back on track with the shortest possible downtime.

Locomotive Maintenance

Careful, planned maintenance of locomotive fleets keeps business on track

The profitability benefits of reduced downtime and maximum uptime apply, of course, not least to locomotives. Located in Ånge, at the geographic centre of Sweden, our facility offers 400 metres of track inside heated workshop premises, directly connected to generous track space for stabling. The workshop's lifting capacity is an impressive 140 tonnes. Here we carry out corrective and planned maintenance, repairs, and servicing of locomotives — from minor inspections and overhauls to comprehensive revisions such as Ö4 and R2.

We also develop new, tailored solutions together with our clients to increase locomotive flexibility and performance, enabling locomotives, for example, to be quickly adapted for alternative types of transport.

Wheel Maintenance

Turning, axle box overhauls, and wheel replacement

Wheel maintenance is a central part of our operations and an important factor in keeping traffic moving. Over the course of a year, more than 10,000 wheelsets pass through our workshops. Using state-of-the-art technology — including some of the country's few wheel lathes — we carry out services such as turning, axle box overhauls, and wheel replacement. Thorough maintenance reduces unplanned stoppages.

Mobile Units

Time is money — fast response and maximum mobility minimise downtime

In recent years, we have prioritised this part of our operations and now offer around 50 mobile units. Mobile units are available at all SweMaint locations to respond to incidents and repair damage on site — often directly on the track. This well-developed service makes us available nationwide. Our service vehicles are equipped for every conceivable scenario. The mobile units are an important part of our efforts to minimise downtime and thereby improve the conditions and competitiveness of rail freight compared with other modes of transport.

Wheel Supply

A national exchange system and support across long transport distances keep traffic moving

We are Sweden's largest wheel provider, and clients who enter into a wheel supply agreement with us gain access to an efficient, nationwide exchange system. We stock the most common wheel types at 25 locations across the country — ensuring efficient, nearby, and fast service wherever in Sweden a replacement is needed.

Our wheel pool consists of 23,000 wheelsets, of which 3,000 are part of our circulating stock. Our spare wheelsets are stocked at all of our workshops as well as at external wheel exchange workshops, meaning our clients always have access to wheelsets where replacements need to be made.

Parts Supply

Spare parts and replacement components when you need them

We are a full-service company — which is why we also offer parts supply to our clients. Our stockholding is extensive, and we also sell spare parts and replacement components for most types of freight wagons.

Recovery and Clearance

24/7 availability clears the line quickly and gets wagons back in service sooner

Our aim is for freight wagons to operate around the clock, all year round. Unfortunately, not all damage and incidents can be foreseen. We therefore also offer a 24/7 recovery and clearance service that minimises delays. The service involves removing freight and passenger wagons that are out of service for any reason.

Wagon Conversion and Customisation

Match your wagon to the market — and increase earning potential

Customising and converting existing wagons can be a way to further increase efficiency, improve transport economics, and ultimately strengthen competitiveness.

We convert all types of freight wagons according to our clients' requirements, both internally and externally. This can involve anything from extensive alterations to minor customisations of specific details. Examples include installing loading equipment, converting wagons into container wagons, re-lettering, and restoring wagons to their original designation.
